The principles of yoga include staying within your capabilities, slow and steady movement and progress, co-ordination of movement with breathing, no use of force or violence, awareness in the pose, pose and counter pose, static and dynamic poses, no going out-of-breath and no comparisons with others.
The
Llanfair Yoga Group is a long-standing group, but is
perhaps
more properly called yogacise as we do exercises from outside the yoga
discipline. It meets weekly on Fridays in the Everest Hall, throughout
the year. Sessions start at 9.45am and end around 11.15am, and all ages
and genders are welcome to join. Although regular attendance at
sessions is recommended for maximum benefit, many of our members cannot
commit to weekly sessions and are welcome to join us when they can.
Sessions begin and end with relaxation and the time between is taken up
with exercises of varying degrees of difficulty. However, aching joints
and other physical problems are no bar to enjoying yoga; all exercises
are variable in their degree of difficulty, and many can be done from a
seated position. If on doubt, come along and ask for guidance at any
Friday session.
Yoga
is led by Vita Stanton, a long-time practioner whose
flexibility and positive attitude to life is an example to many of the
younger members of the group! Yoga is often seen as a "soft option" in
terms of exercise, but it brings great benefits in terms of flexibility
and core strength if practiced regularly. Many yoga enthusiasts also
find that it helps with insomnia and the everyday worries of life.
Sessions currently cost £2, and all "profits" go towards charities supported by group members, plus of course the odd meal out for the whole group!
If you would like to join the Yoga Group, please come along on any Friday morning and you will be made very welcome. You will need to wear warm, loose clothing (warm layers are especially important in winter), bring a blanket for relaxation time and have a mat, (preferably non-slip) to stand on. You can borrow one of the Yoga Group's mats if necessary until you decide that yoga is for you.
