Book Club

At a Grass Cuttings Coffee Morning to raise funds to maintain the Churchyard late in 2006, a friend and I were discussing books and how much we enjoyed reading and sharing our opinions and reactions to the books. From there it was an easy step to decide that a Book Club might be a good idea. A notice was placed LLINK to discover if there was any interest, which happily there was, and we had our first meeting in March 2007.

We meet on the second Thursday of the month at 2.30 pm, each reader in turn hosting, and providing tea and biscuits, at their home. The books are chosen from the Shropshire Libraries Reading Group Collection list, in a very democratic way, and are collected from Bishops Castle library and distributed around to the readers. We pay no subscriptions; however, we do have a Charity Book Box to which we donate any books we consider agood read and also unwanted books, and make a donation to take one away. This year the money will go to the Cancer Research.

Our aim is to enjoy our sessions, as the Editor reminded us in the September 2007 issue of LLINK. We discover and enjoy authors and poets beyond our normal reading radar, while socialising with our friends and neighbours. It is an afternoon spent in friendly company discussing, sometimes very energetically, books and even poetry, as you may read in the Book Club Review in LLINK.

New readers will be made very welcome; contact Marilyn at 01547 528842.
